 2017 Preview 


       Macon-East Academy finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-7 record.

       Since 2010, Macon-East Academy has gone a combined 24-49. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class AA over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 21 seasons, Macon-East Academy has managed to compile a record of 129-100. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AA and 15th in the AISA.

       The Knights are led by head coach Glynn Lott who is entering his twenty-second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 129-100 over the past twenty-one seasons at Macon-East Academy. Under his direction the Knights have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Lott. Coach Lott led Macon-East Academy to a state championship in 2000.

       Coach Lott's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-one season stands at 129-100 (56.3%). His 129 wins rank th among active coaches in the AISA.

       The Macon-East Academy Knights will play in Class AA region one during the 2017 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. It will be an uphill battle for the Knights if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Macon-East Academy will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

       The Knights open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Hooper Academy on Friday, August 25 at Davis Henry Field. Last year the Hooper Academy Colts finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class AAA region two. The Colts ended last season on a positive note with a win over Evangel Christian Academy by a score of 13-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Macon-East Academy and Hooper Academy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Knights have a 17-7-0 record against the Colts. They last met in 2016 with Hooper Academy winning by a score of 28-12.

       Macon-East Academy returns AISA All-State Senior receiver Drew Baker. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Knights also return Senior defensive back Zack Peacock. He was named to the honorable mention team.

Hazlewood won five consecutive state championships from 1988-1992. During this span the Golden Bears won 29 playoff games in a row.
